Nature Based Solutions Symposium

The Dutch Caribbean Nature Alliance (DCNA) and Fundacion Parke Nacional Aruba (FPNA) successfully concluded their symposium on Nature-Based Solutions (NBS) for Ecosystem Restoration and Conservation on the Dutch Caribbean islands. The event, which took place on November 10th on Aruba, provided a platform for the exchange of knowledge and experiences in integrating innovative solutions to preserve and rejuvenate the diverse ecosystems of the Dutch Caribbean.

In attendance were distinguished guests of honor, including as Her Royal Highness Princess Beatrix, Patroness of the DCNA. The event, which was open for virtual attendance, attracted a global audience eager to learn more about Nature-Based Solutions.

Nature-Based Solutions continue to play a crucial role in addressing the ecological vulnerabilities faced by the stunning ecosystems of the Dutch Caribbean islands. These environments, essential for their economic, recreational, and environmental value, grapple with threats from human activities and a changing climate. The symposium emphasized the groundbreaking approach of NBS, harnessing the power of nature to tackle urgent environmental challenges and presenting a beacon of hope for ecosystem restoration.

The symposium highlighted the importance of customizing NBS to local contexts and fostering a collaborative effort among diverse stakeholders, including those in nature conservation, academia, government, and the private sector. The collaboration between the DCNA and FPNA in organizing this symposium aimed to facilitate knowledge exchange and cooperation, contributing to the success of Nature-Based Solutions in the region.
