Commissioned by the Ministry of Agriculture, Nature and Food Quality, DCNA has been working on communication materials to increase the awareness of tourists and residents in the Caribbean Netherlands about the CITES list and the protection of locally endangered plant and animal species.
Convention on International Trading in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora (CITES)
CITES is an international agreement between governments which works to protect the survival of many critical species of plants and animals. Although it may seem that protecting these species against illegal trading is fairly straight forward, the varied ways these plants and animals are exploited quickly complicates matters. Trading of these species could include food products, exotic leather goods, wooden sculptures, jewelry, trinkets and instruments or even types of local medicines.
