Coral Reef Rehabilitation in the Dutch Caribbean

The Dutch Caribbean islands are recognized worldwide for their healthy reefs and outstanding dive sites. Nevertheless, while these reefs are showing signs of resilience and recovery from recent bleaching events, they still face a large number of local, regional and global threats such as eutrophication and development, bleaching, diseases and hurricanes as well as ocean acidification and climate change. In light of the accelerated decline of many coral species and a rise in hard-to-control threats, coral reef conservation efforts have begun to focus on active rehabilitation of populations of threatened coral species.
